WOOD INDUSTRY
RETROFIT OF TWO PORTAL CRANES
Innovasys was the successful bidder for a project to retrofit two portal cranes at a wood industry facility in Arkansas.
Both portal cranes, a straight track and a circle track unit, were located outdoors in the lumber yard area. The cranes had been supplied by P & H during the 1980s and were equipped with AC VFDs designed by P & H.

Both portal cranes were equipped with ABB ACC 600 Series VFDs with Crane software utilizing lead/follower fiber optic load share technology.
STRAIGHT TRACK PORTAL CRANE (35 TON)

CIRCLE TRACK PORTAL CRANE (30TON)

BRIDGE
spanned two straight tracks
moved forward and backward on train car type steel wheels
there were a total of 6 wheels, each powered by a 40hp SEW Eurodrive gearmotor, on either side of the bridge (an "A-frame" type contstructionwith 3 motors at the base on each side of the "A-frame")
Innovasys supplied 4 x 150hp VFDs, each supplied 3 motors, to control all 12 bridge motors the VFDs were master/slaved together such that "Crabbing" was minimal, if at all
the master/slaving is done via fiber-optic links without requirements for a feedback device all the motors were encoderless which was a huge "plus" because of the maintenance aspect due to the close proximity with the ground

TROLLEY
consisted of 1 VFD controlling motors

HOIST
consisted of 2 x 150 hp VFDs, master/slaved together, each controlling a motor on either side of the drum
the master was speed regulated and the slave was torque regulated the motors are complete with encoders
the crane ran on a circular track about a central point
the radial arm extended past the radius of the track to allow the circle track cranes to cover a larger area with respect to eachother

BRIDGE/GANTRY
consisted of 2 x 150hp VFDs master/slaved together

TROLLEY
consisted of 1 x 25hp VFD

HOIST

consisted of 1 x 150hp VFD

EIGHTEEN PULSE DRIVE SYSTEMS
DESIGNED & ENGINEERED INTEGRATED DRIVE SYSTEMS
ABB ACS600 Series 18 pulse drive systems. Economical harmonic mitigation solutions ranging from 10hp thru 600hp are available. The 18-pulse phase shift transformer connected to three AC input bridges reduce typical recifier harmonics (5th, 7th, 11th, and 13th).

DIRECT TORQUE CONTROL TECHNOLOGY
Direct Torque Control is an optimized motor control method for AC drives that allows direct control of all the core motor variables. This opens up AC drive Capabilities never before realized and offers benefits for all applications.

Automatic Start (both forward & reverse!)
Lower Motor Noise
Rapid & Easy Setup
Integral PID Controller
Fast Response to Process Changes
Unequalled Motor Speed & Torque Control

DYNE & TEST STAND
INNOVASYS DYNE & TEST STAND DRIVE SYSTEMS
Innovasys designs, builds and programs custom motor and drive systems for the dyne and test stand markets. With ABB's active regenerative technology, Innovasys has built dynamic drive systems which enable energy savings by feeding the braking energy of the motor back to the network. The unique regen control algorythm and filter provide extremely low current and voltage harmonics along with fundamenal unity power factor.

GRAB CONTROL
ABB GRAB CONTROL FOR CO-GEN FACILITY
At a Co-Gen facility in Michigan ABB's Grab Control Solution is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This facility burns the Country garbage and in turn creates steam to drive a turbine generator. The generator then supplies power to the plant and also sends power to the grid. Two grab bucket cranes equipped with ABB grab control and ABB ACS600 series drives supply garbage to the incinerator.

Motor pot control infinately variable
ABB ACS600 75hp VFD
TROLLEY
Wound rotor motor with line shaft

ABB ACS600 25hp VFD

HOLDING & CLOSING
Consisted of 2 x 120 hp VFDs, master/slaved together
ABB Grab Control controlled both opening and closing through the fiber optic ring
An RC radio controlled all four axes remotely from an AC operators room.
The Grab Control automatically controlled the 40% / 60% torque ratio upon raising the load which allows simple joystick raise and lower
The operator no longer has to worry about speed match and load share through the joystick
The motors are complete with encoders
